"As evening begins to chase away the day, the creatures of the night come out play. "
I have a great love of birds, especially the beautiful Barn Owl. In this painting I have tried to capture the silent gaze of a Barn Owl, watching the dimming of the day, readying himself for his moonlight hunt for supper.
This painting brings together two distinct styles that I enjoy painting in; the owl is painted in detail, while the background trees are deliberately kept as abstract shapes.
It is painted on a cotton canvas and framed in a floating frame. The frame is a 35mm deep sided, burnished gilt finished wooden frame with a distressed finish (see photos). It is wired and ready to hang. The canvas measures 12" X 10". Including the frame its final measurement is 13.5" X 11.5".
The painting has been protected with a satin varnish, which gives it a soft sheen.
Heartfelt thanks to Paul Sherman for his wonderful reference photo on PMP.
