Artist's description:

This mixed media piece was made in the studio based on sketches done by the River Thames in Rotherhithe looking towards the Shard. It was early summer and pretty chilly in the breeze but there can be a good kind of urgency about sketching in slightly hostile conditions. I personally really love the Shard, although I know lots of people don't. I like the way it echoes the church spires elsewhere on London's skyline and the glass and fractured top make it much less substantial than many new skyscrapers. In this work I am focussing on the bottom of the Shard and its position within a riverbank where buildings are packed next to each other.
