This painting is from my 2014 'Secrets & Skies' series. These paintings were about the way in which open spaces bear silent witness to our thoughts, emotions and secrets. All my paintings are a reflection of that inner dialogue with the Landscape.
This particular painting is a loose view of the coastline near my studio in Pembrokeshire on the west coast of Wales,UK but that is not really the subject. It could be anywhere, because it's about the feeling not the place. Stormy seas hitting the coast create magical dramatic spays that turn vaporous in the wind. When you are alone on the cliffs in these conditions you can bare your soul to the elements and shout your secrets to the wind.
The painting has been built up in many layers and combines a variety of techniques; staining and glazing and sfumato blending in thin layers, gradually building up translucency, depth of colour and atmospheric 'mist'.
