I visited Hay-on-Wye in Wales many years ago. Whilst I was there, I bought a beautiful antique book about Roses. The illustrations in this book inspired me to create a painting that looked like a vintage stamp/ transfer with enhanced colours, a reminder of tinted photography. I painted the background colour with pearlescent ink, in a 1950's turquoise blue, and then transferred a colour photocopy of one of the illustrations with acetone. Some traces of the paper from the photocopy remain on the canvas. I then added layers and layers of paint, pastels and pencil. This painting became an exploration of tecnique, and real and unreal suspension of still life.
Pearlescent ink, acetone, colour photocopy, pastel, ink, acrylic, watercolour pencil on stretched canvas.
