Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

As we walk around the world our journey is aided by the labour of others - who built the roads, railways, canals and buildings that we take for granted, who often lost their lives or health in this endeavour, and who we wouldn't let into our towns and villages at the time. This is my homage to them.

The Price of Coal was inspired by the story of the building of the Woodhead Tunnel, which enabled the shipping of coal, iron and steel from South Yorkshire to Manchester and Liverpool, and played a large part in ensuring the prosperity and growth of the region.

Materials used:

Cotton canvas stretched on artist made frame constructed from planed soft wood.
