Artist's description:

There are countless layers of hot encaustic paint (beeswax, resin and pigments) that are fused with with a butane torch until a muti-colored surface is built. Then I carved into the surface creating the leaves of the pepper tree; using a hot stylus, I added the red berries.

Encaustic will never fade and responds to the human touch by glowing like a ceramic tile. It is one of the oldest mediums in the world that is having a revival because of the magnificent and permanent surface.

Materials used:

bees wax, damar resin, powered pigments
