There is this beautiful old tree that is on the banks of the River Stour in the Westgate parks, the trunk is twisted and knotted with age and it reaches out over the river. I often passed by it and thought that I should paint it ,on this day it was bathed in glorious evening sunlight and the branches seemed to be stretching towards the sun.
I have tried to capture the spirit of the old tree in this work, with its strong roots entwined into to the ground yet still trying to reach out to the light.
The use of layers heavy body acrylic applied with a palette knife give the painting a structural quality .
The work is sold unframed and is ready to hang
