Have you ever stood as close you can to a tree, and looked at all the layers of bark that have built up over the years? Layer upon layer, all different shapes and colours, building up a thick protective layer. This metal door seems to have been treated in this same way over the years, layer upon layer of different colour paints, all of which have ultimately failed to protect it from the elements. Deep rust pockets have exposed the multiple layers applied in the past, but now forming rich textures, patterns and colours of their own.
This artwork has been created as a limited edition of just 8 plus an artist's proof.
It is printed on brushed aluminium, with an aluminium subframe on the back, and sealed with a thin acrylic layer on the front in order to preserve the colours and texture, and making the artwork fade-proof and easy to clean. It is remarkably light-weight and also very easy to hang, and stands a couple of centimetres away from the wall.
This artwork would benefit from being placed near natural daylight, or being illuminated by artificial light. The unique reflective quality of the underlying metal saturates the colours and creates an incredible 'bounceback' of colour and texture, which create almost a 3D effect when seen with the benefit of light.
