Artist's description:

It was April when I started working on this and April is the hottest month in Thailand, it was almost 40 decrees and little wind. I started thinking of my childhood especially memories of working in the rice fields, we would start working early in the morning and work until the sun went down, it was hard breaking work in extremely hot conditions, there was no shade in those fields.

I wanted to try and express that heat in this painting and the only shade is the shade from the haystack, that’s me sitting there in the shade trying to cool down a little, we would be covered from head to toe to stop burning from the sun.

Painted with broad brush strokes and a pallet knife.

Materials used:

oil on canvas
