I created this large beetle painting after having created The Golden Bee for Artfinder's partnership with the environmental charity Friends of the Earth bee-themed art exhibition for the launch of the Great British Bee Count in May 2016.
This is the fourth painting in the Golden Insects Series which includes a bee, a ladybug, a beetle and a flying ant and ladybug.
This painting has a beautiful glow during the day and especially at night. Its reflective surface adds a touch of warmth to any room in your home.
I will be posting new golden leaf paintings each week. Follow me and stay tuned!
This painting is:
- 15.74 x 19.68 in. / 40 x 50 cm.
- painted with Zecchi firenze professional grade Italian oil paints
- painted on light golden leaf which has been protected in 6 layers of laquer I prepare in my studio
- signed on the front
HOW THIS PAINTING IS MADE:
I prime the canvas surface with 3 coats of acrylic primer.
I then paint the surface with an yellow ochre color. Once dry, I apply the guilding glue and let dry for a few minutes. I then proceed to carelully apply the golden leaf to the surface and let dry. Once the golden leaf has dried and I've taken off any excess, I proceed to coat the surface about 6-7 times with lacquer I prepare in my studio in order to create a nice thick surface.
Once the lacquered surface is ready, I paint my large insect.
This painting will be shipped via DHL Corrier and arrive within 3-4 days.
