I often think of eyes as black suns (pupils) within the sky (iris) , and when I made this the eyelashes became branches of trees and beyond were my flying birds. I made the sun red as if it was setting with golden rays.
The eye is constructed from plywood, and tiled with glass mosaic tile, Venetian gold leaf glass, and a half cut semi-transparent red marble for the pupil/sun. The depth of the eye is approximately 16mm and fixed securely onto the drawing.
The background is drawn onto blue card using black and gold pens.
Framed in a black box frame with plexi-glass. (Photo without the glass to eliminate reflection)
The plexi glass also offers approximately 7 times more UV protection than glass, therefore the drawing will be very resistant to fading.
glass, Venetian gold leaf glass, glass marble, pen, card, plywood
