Using new and historic pictures of the city, I made a drawing that I hoped would represent a child's eye view of Glasgow. The prevailing idea was to find images that represented Glasgow's culture and architecture, its social complexity, history of scientific endeavour, and the suffering experienced before, during and after the second war. I hoped to bring these things together to make a sort of fantasy world - which is being imagined by the two young 'astronauts'.
The technique used is very unusual. A slab of plaster is poured, the image is drawn onto it using compressed charcoal, then details are scratched back out with a knife.
