I was married to a jazz musician and traveled with him to recordings, clubs and festivals, and for 12 years these musicians were the subjects of my work. I realized after my husband's death that that life was no longer mine. Since then I have concentrated my figurative work on women; strong, independent women.
I portray women as being in touch with their souls, perhaps vulnerable but, resilient. I hope the viewer senses the soft strength in these woman and the ability to handle life's challenges and retain the ability to love.
My youngest daughter is the model for this series.
I have chosen to use impressionistic brush strokes not only to keep the painting fresh and new, but to emphasis the subject's courage and flexibility.
