Original artwork description:

"The Dying Achilles" shows the Greek Hero in his moment of death, wounded at the only vulnerable place in his body: his heel. Achilles decided to die young and become eternally famous. A decision he later regretted.

Ernst Gustav Herter (born 14 May 1846 in Berlin, Germany) was a famous German sculptor. He specialized in creating statues of mythological figures. Among his most famous works is "Sterbender Achill" (Dying Achilles), created in Berlin in 1884. The statue was acquired by the Empress of Austria and became the centerpiece at her palace Achilleion in Corfu, Greece.

Greek Mythology always fascinated me. The myth of the Trojan War and the personality of Achilles were my favorite stories, that I still re-read every year. Ancient Greece lay the foundations for storytelling, for art, for democracy and free speech - and for aethetics. This is why I chose their main stories and works, to keep them alive. To make them more popular, even 2500 years later.

This collage is made out of photos from the sculpture, I worked on digitally and printed them in different colours. Further I added spray paint and a thin layer of epoxy resin for this "rain-effect". The epoxy resin assures longevity as well.

Materials used:

Photo, Paper, Spray Paint, Epoxy resin
