Artist's description:

An exercise in expressive colour and dynamic composition.

This painting began as a charcoal sketch straight onto the canvas, loosely inspired by Matisse's Dance paintings. The seven figures took on their characters in an extended process of organisation and reorganisation of every element. I always saw the light central figure as an anchor, exerting a downward force against the circular movement of the group. The rest grew out of the demands of movement and harmony.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint on canvas
