"Making Art is the closest one can get to God without actually having to be good."
(Dominic Rouse, 2003)
From the series 'Haunted by a Painter's Ghost'.
As with much of Rouse's work this image is a complex montage of disparate elements gleaned from various locations around the world. The young model is an intricate montage of numerous original transparencies and the background is principally a derelict hotel in Cambodia, which was also used as a location for the Lara Croft movie 'Tomb Raider'. Additional elements form Spain, Argentina, Thailand and England can also be found in this intriguing image.

"He is unquestionably a master technician. If that were not so, his work would not have the power of persuasion that it possesses. It’s his incredible technical finesse that allows us to believe his imagery as well as to be amazed by it. Like a great violinist or pianist his technique does not get in the way of his ideas; the technique frees us by its brilliance." (Mark Fields - collector Philadelphia, USA)
A disturbed childhood, sorrow, one lost child, one ostrich, a pelican, a disused hotel (Cambodian), imagination, inspiration, sombre light, impeccable craftmsmanship, blood, sweat & tears.
