I often travel on an assortment of suburban commuter trains in and out of London which offer some wonderful views of the capital in its dark looming urban presence. This was painted from memory and is a capriccio, a habit of mine when sitting with a sketchbook and a few minutes to spare but no view. Gestural washes and staccato lines create this utilitarian scene.
Painted in my studio from memory and a couple of smartphone-photos.
