Artist's description:

This print was created for my recent solo show 'Out of the Margins'. For this exhibition, I drew on manuscripts from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries; mainly breviaries, psalters and books of hours commissioned by wealthy aristocrats and packed with extraordinary decorated margins which are seemingly unrelated to the text. These ‘marginalia’ often feature animals cavorting in foliate borders, taking on human attributes and generally having a good time. I used many of the common themes running through such manuscripts; animals as musicians, warriors, literati, and brought my own interpretation to these creatures of medieval imagination.

This print is in a limited edition of 30. It has been hand printed using oil-based inks on British-made 300gsm Somerset paper. The glasses and detail on the book are painted on with 23.5 carat 'shell' gold (so-called because medieval artists would have used shells as a container for it). The grey detailing in the architectural surround is painted with watercolour. All prints are individually numbered and signed.

Minor variations occur naturally through the printmaking process and each print is original.

This print is unmounted and unframed.

Each print is board-backed, wrapped in cellophane and packaged carefully for shipping.
