Artist's description:

A student I tutored individually in her own home liked me to paint while she was painting to get an idea how I tackled a subject. I would therefore arrange a group of objects from whatever was available in her conservatory studio and usually produce a painting in a short time while advising her on the execution of whatever subject she had chosen to paint.
One day, when I arrived, she announced that she had herself set up a still life for me. This was the setting that awaited me. Not wanting to disparage her efforts or say it was far too 'busy' a display I decided to paint exactly what she had arranged for me.
I must say I was not displeased with the result and rather enjoyed mastering the complexity of the subject.
Although I wanted to depict the subject accurately I did not want it to be a photo-realist representation but rather to retain something of my own individual style.
