Artist's description:

Flamingos are some of the most instantly recognizable birds in the world, Their colour and long necks make these gracious creatures iconic, The Andean flamingo resides in South America and is considered vulnerable to extinction due to chemical pollution from nearby Borax mining companies who pollute the waters in which these beautiful creatures reside.

The word "flamingo" comes from the Spanish and Latin word "flamenco" which means fire, and refers to the bright color of the birds' feathers. Not all flamingos are brightly colored, however, and some of the birds are mostly gray or white. The strength of a flamingo's coloration comes from its diet. They are monogamous birds that lay only a single egg each year, If a colony is ransacked by a predator or hit by a natural disaster it can take several years for the population to grow again.
