The Amphitheatre is a much loved section of the Drakensberg mountain range in South Africa. It is considered one of the most impressive rock faces on the planet. The Tugela Falls, the second-tallest waterfall in the world, is a seasonal complex of waterfalls that cascades down the Amphitheatre Escarpment.
This painting was painted on location during my visit to The Drakensberg in March 2015.
It was selected for the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists exhibition in October 2015, where it was given one of six awards by the judges from the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and the Royal Watercolour Society.
