Artist's description:

2016, acrylic on wood panel, 36 x 36 x 1.75 inches. Unframed, ready to hang.

The title references the night sky. When we look up at night, we are seeing the universe around us, but as it once was. We are looking into the past, as the light which reaches us has been traveling anywhere from seconds (the Moon) to billions of years (the furthest known galaxy). Is this reality? What does this mean to us? Who or what might be looking back at us?

Different shades, textures, and consistencies of black paint and gesso are applied on top of a base layer of bright violet and ultramarine blue. These vibrant colors shine through with the right lighting (LEDs with a temperature of 4000K or above are recommended).
