Whichever country I visit, I love to check out city parks. And if the parks have a boating lake then I'm even happier. This painting came to me after regularly seeing the kitsch swan-shaped boats you often see on boating lakes. I've spotted them everywhere from a trip to Rio, Brazil, to Hastings, Sussex, the nearest seaside town to my home. I love the idea of companies creating huge plastic swan-shaped boats rather than just normal ones - an idea that is quite 'pop art' in itself.

For this canvas I chose to depict the boat against a UK park setting, on a sunny spring-like day. I also decided to include a real swan to contrast the natural with the manmade version.

The end result is a bold bright colourful piece that would brighten up any home.

I've been inspired to create this piece by pop artists such as David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Patrick Caulfield, and Roy Lichtenstein.

It is painted on a stretched cotton canvas that is ready to hang, and signed on the back as pictured.
