Having recently relocated to the south coast I regularly walk along the promenade towards Bournemouth Pier. If the waves are there you'll find many surfers. One cold evening in winter I was walking along the pier, a little too late for surfers, around 5-6pm. As I was about to leave I noticed a surfer walking into the sea on the west side of the pier. The sun was almost set and the combination of this and the low tide meant there were lots of interesting shapes and reflections happening so I held the camera to my eye in case something happened. As the surfer walk into the sea he created a trail of circles behind his footsteps. Click! I took three images. Initially, as he wandered into view, then the one you see before you, and finally the last, circles dissipating as he began to run into the depths. The image feels timeless, philosophical in nature and with beautiful reflections, shimmering water sinking into the sand and shapes surrounding the central player.
