Artist's description:

Part of - and probably the last - of The Manta Ray Series, this ominous landscape started a couple of years ago as a pleinairlandscape, and subsequently was populatedbythese strange acquatic forms. The Broken Hand Isle is no longer in the sea, but stuck in mid-land.

I was thinking very much of Francis Bacon's portraits of Van Gogh, walking along the track, but my wife forbade me to put that figure in... also, the part of the title in brackets is taken from the song "Evening Over Rooftops" by The Edgar Broughton Band, it just seemed to fit the image that developed in this picture and my wife was playing it on the CD player when I signed the picture.

Materials used:

Oil paint and gesso

Sunset Species (How far are we from dying, is it nearly at an end)? (2017)
