I remember that evening in Rome, when at dusk, I was mesmerised by the colours. The shapes and shadows shifted and moved, like in a dream, and created a fantasy world. At once eerie, spectral and unearthly, but reassuring and comforting, the effect was heightened further in the narrow lanes, and arched doorways, where pools of yellow and pink were created in little puddles of light.
This is my memory of that evening. I created this abstract urban sketch partly from photographs of that Roman street, and partly from imagination, thinking of colours and shapes, rather than a faithful representation of the architectural details and features. But, you can see faint shadows of the green shuttered windows, and the arches and overhanging buildings over the narrow paved walkway. This is a special moment in time captured on paper, and if you've had a amazing Roman holiday (who hasn't!) then you will enjoy this painting.
This will be signed and dates at the back and front, and if you would like a mount, or a frame, please do send me a message to discuss.
Hope you find a world full of colour and your shangri-la here!
