When I'm out and about walking our dogs I always have my phone ready to take a quick 'Instagram' snap of any lovely sunsets/sunrises or other lovely landscapes (of which there are plenty where I live). This painting was inspired by one such photo taken while walking along a country path at Sandside (a country estate in the far north of Scotland). It was late winter and the sun was just starting to set casting a lovely yellow glow.
I painted this using thick acrylic paint applied with a palette knife in an impasto style. The canvas is a deep set box canvas and the edges are painted black so it can be hung as it is or can stand up on the mantelpiece whichever you prefer (or, as someone who recently bought a painting on the same size told me 'it's small enough to take from room to room so you can look at it no matter where you are in the house!)
