Artist's description:

Sunflower study- I observed how the leafs & stalks twisted & turned- they seemed to die in a quite lovely & graceful way.- hanging on to dear life.I started with the black centre of the head of one flower & gradually moved round the picture surface- getting lighter with my brush strokes as I went.-I like the little pointy shapes the flower heads made- as if each little petal was reaching out for light-clinging to life- the stalks steadily defiant also- never giving up without a fight! Also previously inspired by Hockney's work & how he used this type of background in some of his pictures.
