I woke up at 5:30 a.m. on a Saturday, while my family lay fast asleep. I packed my paints and easel and drove to the top of the mountain, outside of my town. I knew what I wanted to paint but I hadn't scouted out the exact location. I drove through some back roads until I saw the view. I pulled to the side and parked. I set up my easel on the side of the road and the edge of this cliff. The view was the sun rising up over the redwood landscape. The morning foggy mist was intertwined in the tree tops. I felt so accomplished after painting this piece. I commute over this mountain during the week around this time and this is the highlight of my commute.
This is a very special painting.
