Pears lend themselves to all sorts of evocative moments. These were ready to eat, but I had them sitting on a striped cotton rug from India which I use as a tablecloth coz it's too pretty for the floor and anyways my dog would make a meal of it in no time. Then I placed some more in a pedestal bowl and before I knew it I was painting 'em instead of eating 'em! I started with a background of dark ultramarine blue. Waited till it dried up and then covered that with the complementary orange. Then I drew into the wet orange paint with Q tips, removing the paint and revealing the dark blue beneath. Waited for that to dry and then painted over with other colours. The effect, if I do say so myself, is rather striking. I've hung on to this painting for a while, unable to let go of it. But now I'm ready to do so, so here it is...Just the hit of colour needed for your dining room wall.
