ABOUT THE PIECE

Inspired by the 50s/60s/70s music that I like to listen to while I paint. They are jazzy and funky and full of life. The works from this collection are themed with song titles that relate to cycling, journeys, or places, like this one by Mitch Ryder.

The idea for this piece was to use colors and textures that are recognizable to city dwellers: black asphalt, caution yellow, spilled paint from sloppy road paint jobs, vertical shapes that act like skyscrapers over smaller block units that resemble apartments, and a bumpy, gritty feel. There is a lot of movement and energy in this piece, much like there is when living in a city.

The idea for this piece was to include some bright yellow gift wrap and balance it against my drawing material’s neutral tones in a dramatic, bold and expressive way.

- Created with professional-quality materials
- Can be stretched onto bars that are 1.5” deep; sides are painted graphite grey
- Varnished for preservation in a matte sheen
- Signed on the backside
- Ready to hang with d-rings and wire

FAQs about stretching artwork on canvas:

By taking the canvas off the stretcher bars and rolling it up for shipping, I’m able to reduce the cost of the artwork and pass the savings on to the buyer.

Stretching does not hurt my artwork since I paint the art already stretched and since the art is not made with hard, stiff materials that typically are subject to cracking. I have even had artwork restretched for me so I could verify this.

The cost to have artwork restretched varies. I work with a canvas company who gives me a very affordable price, with 40x40 costing $60 and 60x72 costing $95. BEFORE BUYING, please research your area for options and pricing. Some frame shops go as high as $280 for a 60x84 painting. Aside from frame shops and canvas companies, you can also check out cabinetry shops and ask about their experience and ability to stretch artwork.

If you are local to San Diego, I can introduce you to my canvas company.
