Artist's description:

Mixed media on paper.

There are many forms and ways to express the movement of action in a painting. I chose to depict Sufi dancers as the subject of my two paintings. I saw their performances in Istanbul and was so amazed how they moved their bodies in a “trance-like” movement. Twirling around on their own, yet in harmony with other dancers. The whole effect of their body movement along with the music they performed to was mesmerising.

I knew it was going to be difficult to depict this beautiful movement in a painting. I did many quick sketches while watching the dancers and also took many photographs using the combination of both to finalise the compositions for the paintings. I think that I have achieved my aim in bringing together the action of dance into action in art.
