The Succulent Still-Life was a study of Cubism. I chose a pot of succulents to be the object because many works focused on inanimate objects. I was more focused on the technique rather than the subject. This collage was done with different types of paper cut into strips. The paper consisted of construction paper, pieces of a magazine, pages from an old book, watercolor paper, and plain paper. I aimed to keep the tones neutral and not have any stand out unnecessarily. Those that didn’t blend in naturally were manipulated with watercolors so that all would work together harmoniously. Using oil pastels and crayons, I drew on the pot so that it would blend into the background but used more blues and white to also make it pop. The succulents were created with construction paper and some were colored with a green crayon, colored pencil, and permanent marker.
