Artist's description:

Over the last two years I've been working on a large composition that imagines a moment of violence taking place. It is a multi figure composition but in the course of it's development I have inevitably made studies that focus on elements in the larger piece. This is one of them. It is in parts, a technical experiment, a characterisation, and an anatomisation of one of the figures. As a culture we are much more comfortable with fragments than we are with the idea of the whole and it is, indeed, very often the case that a fragment can embody more than a completed piece of work. Perhaps this is the case here where the big woman is attacking empty space. It has pathos that came as a surprise to me and in it's absurdity gets close to heart of the larger compositions motivation
