Artist's description:

This is a charcoal study for #3 in my El Dia de los Muertos series. (The Day of the Dead.) It is one of my favorite paintings!
My life and paintings are about celebration. It is one of my very favorites! This particular drawing is the subject of a beautiful, short video made by Nitram Charcoal. It features both this painting and my harp music. To view, click on "Me At Work" then scroll down to the "Day of the Dead" link.
My series based on the celebrations of Dia de los Muertos-- the Day of the Dead--are not typical representations of this holiday. Mine are about the people behind the makeup and costuming that celebrate and express what the holiday means to them. It's the life they breathe into that, remembrance of the dead and the ways in which they choose to mitigate their grief and loss. The spectators become the spectacles; the viewers become the viewed. This celebration is also a time when the makeup and the costuming renders the participants anonymous, blurs their identity and allows them to celebrate with their fellow community members as equals.
This series is still in progress.
You can see the entire collection by clicking on the El Dia de los Muertos option in "Collections."
