The Ring of Brodgar is a Neolithic henge monument and stone circle on Mainland Orkney, Scotland. It sits on a split of land between two lochs, surrounded in a bowl of hills and higher ground and is part of the ‘The Heart of Neolithic Orkney’ UNESCO site.
This canvas was painted from photographs taken in the Winter of 2011 on a sketching trip. Brodgar was surrounded by the most extrodinary colours - the northern lights were playing out behind cloud cover, the moon was full, and the glow from Stromness was angry and red in the distance, and the wind was blowing wildly.
The painting is on a deep edge box frame canvas, wit the sides finished in a hand-mixed grey, to compliment the painting. Its signed on the rear and dispatched with a certificate of authenticity.
acrylic on a deep edge canvas with the painting continued onto all sides.
