Artist's description:

When I returned to my place in France in late October I found 2 beetles floating in a water butt, one was a beautiful blue metallic colour underneath - the other was green. As I was looking at them one came back to life and I stashed it in the barn for winter, the other I kept and using a magnifying class I painted it on a feather, and the scene I had earlier painted. I used snail shells from the garden for the distant islands, and the Crab and Lobster Claw Docks came from the Hastings seashore. At the time I was just following on from the "October Ray" and "November Ray" pictures but this picture led to 3 others (to follow) that had the feel of a journey about them. I was wondering where this came from but since, I have discovered the moving on of an old friend in November and so, I thought, the beetle must represent his spirit, or maybe the feather does... a metamorphosis is certainly going on, and the later paintings will explain this "journey aspect" though the actual events are undecipherable.
