Contrary to popular belief, the true most northerly point of the UK isn't John O'Groats but actually Duncansby Point. All along the north coast of Scotland you'll find these stacks where the ocean has eroded the cliffs and the ones at Duncansby are wonderful pointed needle stacks.
One of the best parts of living so far north is the opportunity to see the northern lights at certain times of the year and I've been very lucky to see them in all their glory on a few occasions now. This painting was inspired by my love of nature's light show and Scotland's beautiful coastline and was a wonderful opportunity to make use of my love of vibrant colours in art!
The canvas is deep set and the edges are painted midnight blue/black so it can be hung as it is or can also stand upright on a mantelpiece if you prefer.
