In this painting I wanted to explore the feeling of being stifled. I'm sure we are all familiar with being in a situation where we feel we cannot fully express ourselves for fear of being judged or mocked etc.
To capture this I wanted the paint to feel claustrophobic around the face. Using erratic brush strokes around the mouth to reinforce the feeling of not being able to express ourselves. I also to keep the colours cool in the area surrounding the face. This contrasts with the warm brown in the lower half of the painting. Tying these two together with drip effects to represent the idea that we are imposing our fears, on a completely normal and often times pleasant situation.
Thank you for looking.
