I cannot travel comfortably without a sketchpad and camera, I just never know when I'll come across a scene that shouts out Paint Me! I found this small family during the blazing heat of a mid-day summer sun (yes, even in Wales we get one of those every now and again) and have tried to bring back the echo of that heat and stillness using the background colours I have.
Whenever I paint an animal or group my intention is not to simply capture just their outside but to try to describe that 'being alive' feeling that is common to all of us.
For twelve years my husband and I lived on and made our living from a 10 acre smallholding here in Wild West Wales. During that time we fell in love with the animals of the fields and hills of Wales and of the meadows and woodlands around us.
Though, sadly, we no longer live that life due to my husband's long-term illness the love of it all still fills me and it is this love, and the knowledge and understanding we embraced in our years there, that still comes through in much of my art.
Stretched box canvas – can be framed but ready to hang as it is.
