In 1982, the stag beetle, as an endangered insect, was listed in the second annex of the Bern Convention, and in 2012 it was chosen as insect of the year in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
The ancient Romans, along with the Greeks, treated the stag beetle with special respect and even decorated their necks (as an amulet) with dried insect heads with protruding "horns".
