This is a synthetic representation of the Ste Victoire mountain, located near Aix en Provence, and dear to Paul Cezanne, who painted it in all its states.
The earth is sanguine on the southern part and thus offers a wide range of warm tones, contrasting with the blue-gray minerality of the limestone rock. After a few sketches and photos taken on site, the artist painted his canvas in his studio, located half a dozen kilometers from this mythical place.
