I live up the road from the very beautiful and world renound St Ives, Cornwall. It has been a source of inspiration for many an artist over so many years. It was the wet sand, the reflections, the flags amongst the masts and the hazy town in the distance that inspired me to paint this scene. Tregenna Castle can been seen above the town in the distance.
As always, I started with watercolour on primed canvas and used acrylic inks for vibrancy, detail and contrast. I also like to create texture and a feeling of movement and fluidity with the inks.
The canvas is a 2cm thin edge canvas and the image does not wrap around the edges. I have painted these white.
Acrylic inks, watercolour, 100% medium grain cotton canvas
