Artwork description:

Old-world folklore and old-world beliefs. There’s romance in the idea of a guiding spirit whose protection we might ask for before setting out on a voyage, or cooking a meal, or planting the garden.

St. Fiacre, a 7th century Irish monk, is known as the patron saint of gardeners. As tribute to this saint’s Celtic roots, I’ve incorporated the trefoil symbol into the border design and chose a colour palette based on the Book of Kells.

This is a limited-edition reduction linocut, carved by hand and printed by hand from one block of linoleum, one colour at time. Each print is unique, with possible slight variations within the edition. Colours may vary slightly depending on your monitor.

Materials used:

printmaking ink, battleship gray linoleum
