Artist's description:

Stepping out from within or leaning back to oblivion? Taking time out to let the world (and walls) around you settle for a little soul searching.

This original painting was completed during a day of contemplation at what direction to take my style. After a lot of soul searching I let the paint take over and let my mind just drift.

After a period of menopausal problems (I am of age) I completely covered a long canvas in red, and began working a darker blue throughout. A beautiful muted purple arose and a shimmer of water.

As I mixed my limited palette of red, white, blue and black, I began to paint abstract eyes, a face emerging and a whole lot of soul searching. At the end of the day I was unsure of who was viewing whom - the painting by me or me by the painting.

A longer look back gave rise to two colourful cockerel heads, peaking out from the mist of purple haze.
