Artist's description:

I love the mythology surrounding our native silver birch. Symbolising renewal and purification, sometimes called the Lady of the Woods, Beth to our Celtic ancestors and Bedwen in Wales.
As a symbol of fertility and new birth, the birch is associated with the waxing of the moon and in Norse mythology was dedicated to Thor, not only a Thunder god but also associated with fertility.
So it's all happening here in the forest! I've used an earthy mix of charcoal (proper Sussex stuff grown and produced locally here in the Sussex Weald), along with my favourite acrylic inks and watercolours. Wow...if the weather's inclement, feel renewed and alive in this painting....greens and verdant glows will give you a real sense of breathing in new, fresh air.
