Derived from a family archive, this is an intimate scene. In actuality, it shows an early morning dispute over face-washing, with an eagerly compliant younger sibling and a more obstructive older one.
I completed the work relatively quickly with a limited 5 colour palette over four sessions. It came together painlessly, and I was really pleased with how my intention to convey the simplicity of the scene with efficient brushwork, and retain the integrity of the colours came together..
The intensity of the dark foreground where the observer sits sets up an interesting contrast with the profile of the subjects.
