I read recently that due to the light winter there will be an explosion in the snail population this year. As I've always been rather partial to snails I thought I'd have a go at painting them, add to their number. Here is the first in a series of five small paintings on the topic. Available till one of the individuals is sold, and because of multiple buys I'll enclose an extra small snail painting.
I kept the background plain so that the snail would stand out, the final glaze making it glisten. The shell was great fun to paint, the chestnuts, ray umber and streaks of yellow ocher creating a wonderful pattern, endlessly variable between snails.
