After the introduction of cranes to Somerset I was inspired to make some. These were some small scale models based on origami paper cranes after making a life size crane. The most difficult aspect of making these cranes was bending the wire mesh to the same pattern as the origami paper cranes. Hence they are not perfect and an origami master would probably turn in his grave! But I like the way they turned out and the imperfection of their shape just adds to their charm!
This is the smallest of the three, made using my hand gilded metal leaf glass, this time a copper coloured one. The size is 17cm from head to tail, height 11cm and wingspan 23cm.
wire mesh, glass fibre mesh, cement mixtures, hand gilded metal leaf glass, millefiori tiles
