Semi abstract Ink Resist Painting in 'bleached' style wooden frame
Ink resist is an old technique which I have reinvented to suit my method of working. As an artist you have to be brave or foolish to use this method. Briefly, I paint my picture first in acrylic and then cover it in indian ink. The ink is then washed off leaving previously unpainted areas stained black. Each time I do this the results are a surprise. It gives me a real buzz.
I have been producing Ink Resist paintings for about a year now, although I have been playing with the process on and off for about ten years. It is quite unique. I will be adding more paintings shortly.
Someone told me they thought my work had a look of a Van Gogh. I wish it had! I decided to use subject matter which he would probably have used to see if there was any similarity. Probably not, but this is how and why this painting came about.
